Hornet 2 Korea Strike Mission #18. There I am, at mach after burning halfway across the peninsula, the MiG is 1.2 miles ahead of me, having just popped up to 1,000 ft to commence his bombing run, I can *see* the infantry running away from the bridge. . .
I close and fire bursts to get the line and length, and BINGO, BINGO - I'm burning fuel like an F4 - but the range indicator flashes and I give him - if not the whole nine yards - then at least 25 feet. . . he breaks into a million pieces and I'm closing on them at mach 1 . . . I roll past the debris by inches, throttle back to 100% mil, and wingy, bless him, calls "Good Shot" . . . and that lovely WRAF in the tower says "Mission Successful".
I look around. There are Flankers doing cruel things to Hornets 3 and 4 about 40 nautical miles distant, I have two and a half thousand pounds gas, the carrier is 25 miles away, I have no missiles and 116 cannon rounds left, it's dark and I'm wearing sunglasses. (Electronic banana for spotting the reference). Leaving the Flankers to wingy and the 2 Falcons I dash back to the carrier . . . for a landing that leaves the LSO a gibbering wreck in a pile of his own bricks, service and I'm airborne again . . . and the skies are empty. I have Korea to myself. Time for a little sight seeing . . .
