Took up a Camel in Dawn of Aces the other day (offline).
Into a crowd of Spads and Albatross DVas. Took down a Spad, and had a look around. The party had broken up over quite a wide area, and was comprised mainly of one on one combats. I found a lone Spad to annoy, so gave chase.
My six-month old daughter then woke up and started screaming, and as I was on duty that night I set the Camel to auto-angle and went to sort her out. I returned half an hour later.
The 'plane was at 13,000 feet, low on fuel and heading due west, over what appeared to be desert. There seemd to be a coastline ahead, according to the moving map. Intrigued - where the hell was I? - I turned on my six, cut the engine and glided down at about 130 mph until altitude was 3,000 feet. Checking the coms, I saw that the rest of the red team had not been idle - a couple of kills, which should mean fresh bandits. I passed over a few buildings on the way, so the place was not completely deserted.
The air was not deserted either; some purple pests had tried to follow me, and rather suddenly I had 5 or 6 Albatrosses and Fokker Triplanes giving me their undivided attention.
They were joined by a number of Spads a few minutes later.
Despite being very low on fuel,
this was not a time to head for home, but rather a time to cry havoc! and let slip the dogs of war.
I dispatched 3 DVas and 2 DRIs before the Spads arrived.
Then it was the turn of a Spad, a DVa, and another Spad before with a splutter the fuel was all spent, the engine coughed and was silent.
I managed to squeeze off a few rounds that gave a Spad driver something to think about, before a dead stick landing on the sandy, desert floor. Not my best landing, but I climbed out of my trusty bird, and sat on the hump, waiting for the company of horse I'd overflown to arrive.
In the pictures, note the fuel gauge, the ammo meter and the score card. The more discerning will realize I have doctored the screen shots slightly, but I have only altered the position of the elements, not the content, for ease of display. I have the original PICTs for any unbelievers. Does anyone out there know where the map is showing?
