That we observe the moon, the sun, and especially the other stars as they once were, not as they are <em>now<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>John Halton is similarly fascinated by light that is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.confessingevangelical.com\/?p=1277\">seven and a half <strong>billion<\/strong> years old<\/a>:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/apod.nasa.gov\/apod\/ap080328.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/apod.nasa.gov\/apod\/image\/0803\/grb080319b_swift_2panel.jpg\" alt=\"most distant gamma ray burst, from APOD\" width=\"400\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>John&#8217;s wife drew his attention to this wonderful and apposite poem by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poemhunter.com\/i\/ebooks\/pdf\/elizabeth_jennings_2004_9.pdf\">Elizabeth Jennings<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Delay<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The radiance of that star that leans on me<br \/>\nWas shining years ago. The light that now<br \/>\nGlitters up there my eye may never see,<br \/>\nAnd so the time lag teases me with how<\/p>\n<p>Love that loves now may not reach me until<br \/>\nIts first desire is spent.
