Snakes
09:12 Charles writes, in response to a wibble about residents of Australia,
I don't know what you're worried about. Australia only has eight of
the world's ten most poisonous snakes. It's not like it has all of
them. And don't you just love the Death Adder's name? Short and to the
point. Perfect.
Personally I'm more worried about the sea - there's a couple of
transparent and minute (as in, five pence piece size) jellyfish that
will terminate you with extreme prejudice and in utter agony. And
they've just discovered another species that apparently makes all the
others look like complete girls when it comes to poison.
As for their distribution: 'coastal areas'. Quelle surprise.

il Padrino
09:12 I cannot give any context, but I was described yesterday as an 'awesome Godfather'. Maybe I can get Al Pacino to play me in the movie of my life.

Bloggy
11:31 Some ticklish items from the Grauniad yestertag. Ten commandments for the theatre, why Bliar should be impeached, and why we should all get to vote in the USian elections this November. No value added here, move along please.

14:41 Indirectly, Jonathan reminded me that I never had got around to installing VNC on my home machines (well, the iMac and Kate's iBook). So he gave me copies of OSXvnc and the bizarrely-named Chicken of VNC, and I installed them.
And it's really rather freaky, especially when you have the two machines side-by-side. Bloody cool, though. And then, because I'm a scientist and it's my job to ask the question 'What happens if we poke this?', I set up a VNC session to Kate's iBook (server) and then initiated a VNC connection thence to the iMac. And the result was . . . interesting. Unusable of course, but along the lines of getting trapped between two mirrors. Brrr.

I like to ride . . .
17:03 The Scottish parliament has been discussing cycling issues, and part of this is a consideration of the benefits and risks of helmet-wearing. And . . . it's all, rather confusing really. Eight slides and commentary that do not reach a satisfactory conclusion, and I'm more confused than ever. I'm wondering whether I should continue wearing mine, seeing as any accident I'm likely to be involved in is not going to be a slow one. . . At least the girls like to wear theirs, and it should make more of a difference at the speeds they go at.

Competent
21:27 For the last week my free time that I don't have has been spent playing Oolite, an exercise in retro-gaming with modern technology. Think 'Elite', and think what it would be like written for modern Macs. Then go play it . . .
