We spent quite a bit of time there in the past few years as my brother in law was stationed nearby for a three-year term. It was jolly sad that they closed it, a lovely place. The Spitfire in the grounds, wonderful. Although we spent most time in the grounds, we would have lunch and wander round the house. One time I found the billiard room and spent about 2 hours browsing through the books in the glass-fronted bookshelves while various other people played a few rounds. I even bought one that intrigued me (from Amazon) afterwards, "What are the seven wonders of the world and 100 other great cultural lists".

Thanks for the link to the nice article. Sounds like they sent the place off in style, and the future plans seem appropriate (educational centre, etc.).
